The Lagos Fashion Week Rundown Vol.2
We’re back and we’ve got more trends to unpack! Designers at Lagos Fashion Week definitely delivered and here’s the trends to watch to for to keep your wardrobe fresh.
This season designers did away with the rule book and embraced exaggerated proportions, out of the box thinking, doubled down and delivered ultra feminine silhouettes. We enjoyed an array of excessive frilling, over the top tiers, hem lines that were totally unexpected and dresses that transport you to the most romantic of scenarios, it’s no surprise we fell in love.
Here’s the second dose of our rundown, dig in!
Thrill For Frill
One thing Womenswear designers love is exaggerating proportions with a frill or two! We were treated to every application under the sun and we’re so grateful for it!
Ibilola Ogundipe stole the show in this metallic purple mini dress with cascading frill that gave some cover up on the bust but still brought all the drama by hitting full model height. Other entrance worth options included this mermaid-esque offer from Desiree Iyamah, MOT The Label in two tone denim assymmetric dress and luxurious exaggerated sleeves from Ejiro Amos Tafiri.
Other designers delivering maximum frill included Jewel Jemila, Shop FSS, Iremitide and Nya.
Top Tier
Carrying on from the drop waist skirt that has crept its way back into all our closets, tiered skirts also made a swift return whilst we were distracted. This might also be because both elements work oh so well together!
The designers focused in on giving us multi layer skirt action in all different applications, some of our highlights include Shop FSS with this royal blue dress, two tiered skirt that’s perfect for a good handful of occasions. Pepperrow as always delivers a tiered skirt like no other, mixing raffia and their celebrated colourful print, this skirt remains the centre of attention in any room. Ejiro Amos Tafiri changed things up with a three tiered top in blue that can be styled perfectly with a range of options. Kadiju no surprise makes this list for their multi-layer voluminous skirt which the brand has become synonymous with.
Other designers in the line up delivering killer tiers include Kilentar, Eki Kere, Ibilola Ogundipe, Cute Saint, Maliko and Iremitide.
Real Romantics
One thing Nigerian designers have perfected is the wedding guest dress option, a very much bread and butter option for homegrown brands and this year was not stingy on its offering. Here’s our favourite below.
Lady Bibi delivered a green set with a sleeveless bodice finished with black ostrich feathers dressing up any occasion, Imad Eduso’s purple set with extra high slit, Orire refreshed an existing style with a new colour and shorter length and Jewel Jemila a brand that focuses primarily on guest dressing offered this scarlet option.
Other designers include The LadyMaker, Kilentar, Iremitide, Ibilola Ogundipe, Desiree Iyamah, Pepper Row, Ejiro Amos Tafiri, Shop FSS
Asymmetric Hems
This season designers enjoyed playing with hemlines, things were far from straight forward and we loved it!
Nya presented a wrap skirt option as an alternative to the straight skirt one their Asita set. Sisiano works with movement and volume as per usual finishing the hem of this mesh dress with a multicoloured trim we absolutely loved. Hertunba was also in on the plan with the layered skirt on the black dress pictured below and Jewel Jemila gave us a high low skirt with ruffles to match.
Other designers playing with asymmetric hems included LFJ, Emmy Kasbit, Ibilola Ogundipe, Cute Saint, Imad Eduso, Orire, Kadiju, Desiree Iyamah, Pettre Taylor and Rendoll.
